Port Waratah investing in Kooragang Terminal for improved efficiency and reliability

During the “outage”, where normal operations are amended for a period to accommodate the maintenance project work, an additional 200 workers will be required on site. Port Waratah is committed to promoting employment and stimulating our local economy by purchasing and hiring from local businesses.

The safety of our people, contractors and community has been the highest priority in the planning for the scheduled outage.

We have continued to put in place COVID-safe controls and measures implemented in previous major outages at KCT and CCT including:

  • dedicated facilities and amenities for each project area; and
  • digital technology usage and equipment to reduce interactions.

The projects are scheduled over five weeks however, most works will be completed in the first three weeks of October. The outage projects include structural and plant equipment repairs and maintenance, and other plant improvements such as shiploader rail clamp installations to improve performance and safety during storm events; all aiming to improve the reliability, safety, environmental performance and efficiency of the Kooragang Terminal.

With more than a year in the planning, every effort has been undertaken to minimise any community impacts during the outage.
