The incident involved residual build up and constriction of coal fines and water resulting in a small spill from a shiploader’s launder system. 

Port Waratah takes full responsibility for its actions and is committed to improving our performance through investing in our people, systems and equipment. Specifically, in response to this incident, the following has been implemented: a detailed review and update to our equipment washdown and inspection procedures, improving the verification and accountability process; a review of equipment operating systems including an assessment of material containment; and enhanced employee training.  

Port Waratah takes our licence to operate and obligations to the community and environment seriously and respect the role Government regulation plays in protecting our Harbour. We apologise unreservedly for the incident and acknowledge that incidents of this nature are unacceptable.
