Youth Sport In Portside Suburbs 2024

In 2024, Port Waratah’s Youth Sport in Portside Suburbs Programme successfully delivered $30,000 in partnership with 18 local organisations and schools, directly supporting local junior sport in our Portside communities.

The Programme is designed to support eligible community sporting clubs and schools enhance sporting opportunities for children and youth (under 18). The types of projects supported through the Programme include sport skill and coaching development, community sporting events, improved sports access, enhanced facilities, uniforms and equipment.

Project Description


Bar In Water Polo
Equip all Flippaball players with uniforms and equipment to encourage growth in the sport. It is the introduction to water polo for kids aged 6 – 10 with a focus on playing to learn and having fun.

Carrington Public School
Upgrade sports equipment and space to deliver physical education and sporting opportunities for students of the school such as the ‘Carrington Community Olympics Day’.

Fern Bay Public School P&C
New school jerseys and singlets for representing the school in community sporting events and competitions to achieve sense of team cohesion, pride and team spirit.

Hillcrest Tennis Club
New tennis equipment to assist with the running of the Community Youth Tennis Programme held every Saturday morning.

Mayfield Boomerangs Baseball Club
Support for junior coaching accreditation to encourage and maintain junior coach volunteers.

Mayfield Netball Club
New pinnis for 16 teams (32 sets) due to changing rules around rolling substitutions during the games.

Newcastle Bodyboarding ClubGeneration Next: support for a major U18’s bodyboarding event aimed at all youth to be held at Newcastle Beach. The funding will be used for trophies and competition rash shirts.

Newcastle City and Eastern Districts Cricket Club
Sport Access - particularly for young girls through new equipment for starting players, high-quality, age-appropriate cricket kits, eliminating the need for families to purchase individual gear.

Newcastle City Junior Touch Football
Provide support for field maintenance, line marking and additional club marquees to support sun safe coverage options for the junior teams at representative football competitions and local games.

Training kits and equipment (footballs, tags, kit bags, training cones)

Newcastle Wolves Softball Club
Advancing junior softball development with a state-of-the-art pitching machine providing young players with high quality, consistent, practice opportunities that simulate game conditions.

Norths Netball Club
Nettyheads player development clinic designed to engage and develop both new and existing players.

St Dominics Catholic College
The set up of sensory-friendly sports zones in the school with equipment that engages students from all different stages can engage in sports activities designed to accommodate their sensory processing needs.

Stockton Little Athletics
Safety equipment in the form of tear-drop banners to identify field sports and prevent athletes and parents from walking into throwing areas. Also providing shotput boards and foam shotputs for learning to improve performance in young athletes.

Stockton Peninsula Netball Club
Community Coach Playbook app for volunteer coaches and equipment for training and games days. Nettyheads coaching and player development clinic designed to engage and develop both new and existing players.

Stockton Sharks Junior Football Club
The Kickstart Soccer Initiative with new sets of club soccer balls and Hydrate Me! Project supporting the purchase of fabric water bottle carriers to optimise hydration management during training sessions and matches.

Tighes Hill Public School
New school jerseys and singlets for representing the school in community sporting events and competitions to achieve sense of team cohesion, pride and team spirit

Sport Access – support aim to reduce fees to junior players so that more are children and youth able to join in a sports activity.
