Recent Local Voices feedback has helped us better understand community views on coal export and our Kooragang Terminal investment strategy. These insights are important to our operations, stakeholder relationships and future planning as we position our terminal facilities to meet customer needs and Hunter Valley coal chain demand beyond 2030.

The results showed 65 per cent of participants agree Port Waratah is effective in managing environmental and social impacts on the local community, we are continuing to pursue opportunities for improvement and to share our performance more broadly. Additionally, 51 percent agreed coal should continue to be used as a major energy source in the future, 33 per cent disagreed and 16 per cent were unsure, while 91 per cent agreed that there is likely to be significant changes to the industry in coming decades.

Regarding the investment in the Kooragang Terminal, 94 per cent of respondents supported this capital investment and 83 per cent believe the investment will help maintain existing local jobs. Local industry awareness, points of challenge and key positive reinforcement from the community through Local Voices strengthen trust and confidence in our strategic direction.

Now in its ninth year, the survey is taking a deeper look at the issues Newcastle communities care about most, especially residents in portside suburbs. The survey takes just 15 minutes, and your feedback helps Port Waratah improve how we operate, communicate and plan for the future.
