Port Waratah is proudly local. We value what locals think of our community and lifestyle, our operations, community investment, economic contribution and environmental impact management. Each year we invite local people to take the survey so we can better understand what matters to you. Register and take the survey today!

Now in its seventh year, the open Local Voices survey involves a deeper dive into matters that are most important to the Newcastle community. It takes 15-20mins to complete and the feedback helps us to improve the way we operate and to develop informed communications and strategic plans to prioritise issues and address the needs of stakeholders and local community.

Local Voices is designed to strengthen relationships by providing meaningful two-way communication between Port Waratah and local people, especially residents in portside suburbs. Port Waratah is interested in community views on complex issues such as coal export, materiality, impacts and opportunities, and in return is open and transparent with communications and results, read previous survey results on our Relationships page.

It is a unique community engagement programme developed within Australia's national science agency, CSIRO. The independent and confidential survey is delivered by Voconiq and provides Port Waratah with data every six months, highlighting perceptions at a point in time, as well as longer-term trends.

From the most recent feedback received, we better understand the community’s interest and expectations relating to more than 20 material topics across our five key business drivers, Health & Safety, Licence to Operate, Effective Organisation, Operational Delivery and Coal Chain. This information has helped us to develop our materiality matrix going forward, which supports our sustainability efforts and helps to focus our operational efforts.

To emphasise the value of the survey, $10 for every completed survey is donated to a local community organisation. Since 2018, more than $29,300 in funding has been distributed to community groups in the Newcastle area. Plus, as a thank you for your time, take part in the Local Voices survey and you could win a $300 Visa gift card! Terms and conditions apply.

Drop in to any of these locations on the dates below and to complete the survey in person with a member of the Voconiq team. Alternatively, complete survey online. Local Voices matter to Port Waratah!
