The completed works will ensure that Kooragang Terminal continues to meet the needs of our customers and deliver an efficient service for the Hunter Valley Coal Chain.

During the “outage”, where normal operations are amended for a period to accommodate the maintenance project work, an additional 160 workers will be required on site. Port Waratah is committed to promoting employment and stimulating our local economy by purchasing and hiring from local businesses with 95 per cent of suppliers, manufacturers and contractors situated in the Hunter region.

The safety of our people, contractors and community has been the highest priority in the planning for the scheduled outage.

The projects are staggered and scheduled over a six weeks. The outage projects include structural and plant equipment repairs and maintenance, rail tamping, electrical and control system upgrades and other plant improvements such as bucket wheel share, bearing and cable reeler replacements on one of our reclaimers; all aiming to improve the reliability, safety, environmental performance and efficiency of the Kooragang Terminal.

With Port Waratah investing in a three- year project delivery lifecycle, every effort has been undertaken to minimise any community impacts during the outage.
