Shirley May Swan (née Murray), affectionately known as “Mulla,” was a deeply respected woman whose legacy continues to guide and inspire her family and her community. A devoted mother and grandmother, she was a constant, nurturing presence—both a safe place and a protector—whose strength, kindness and unwavering love has shaped generations. The team proudly carries her name in honour of the incredible woman she was and the enduring impact she had on all who knew her.

With the support of Port Waratah, the club has been able to invest in essential strapping supplies and quality training equipment, improving player safety and enhancing skill development. This funding has also reduced financial barriers for players and families, making participation more accessible and ensuring more women and girls can be part of the game.

The impact extends well beyond the field. Players are developing fitness, teamwork, and leadership skills, while gaining confidence in a supportive and empowering environment. The club fosters a strong sense of belonging, helping participants build meaningful connections with each other and their community. Volunteers and families also benefit, contributing to a positive, community-led initiative that promotes wellbeing, inclusion, and pride across the region.
