Supporting emerging leaders

Port Waratah has been supporting employee participation in the HunterNet Future Leaders Programme since it commenced in 2016.

The HunterNet Future Leaders Programme equips emerging leaders with the skills, confidence, and industry connections to lead effectively.

Delivered by experienced facilitators and industry leaders, it culminates in a major team project, with winners announced at a formal gala dinner. In 2025, Port Waratah supported two participants Ambro Abner, HR Coordinator, and Kym Munro, Process Control Engineer, who both received awards at the gala event in October for their achievements in the programme.

This year’s team challenge saw participants act as consultants, partnering with a HunterNet Member Organisation to develop a five-year growth plan. Ambro’s team, Gone with the Wind, collaborated with a local gasket manufacturer to identify operational improvements, investment opportunities, and steps toward ISO environmental accreditation. Their project was named the overall winner at the gala.

Ambro reflected, “The relationships built over the year have been the most rewarding aspect for me. The project was challenging but sharing that journey with my team and contributing to the business made it a fulfilling experience.”
