Rolling up our sleeves to save lives
Employees and their partners were encouraged to donate blood and platelets, directly contributing to lifesaving outcomes across the Hunter Region. People need urgent blood or plasma transfusions every day for a variety of reasons. Donations support patients in clinical care undergoing emergency treatment for major trauma and people living with a form of cancer. It saves lives and that’s the reason we committed to the campaign.
Our goal was to help save 330 lives, reflecting the size of Port Waratah’s workforce at the time. At December, there were 112 donations recorded equating to 336 lives saved. In recognition of this achievement, we made a $2,500 donation to Australian Red Cross Lifeblood.
Emma Tremelling, Operations Support Officer, said, “The campaign started with strong momentum, and we’ve seen clear spikes in engagement immediately after our callouts, which shows our people are listening, responding and willing to step up when it’s needed most.”
