Digital transformation for safer work
Hazardous work permits are essential for managing health and safety, but traditional paper forms have posed challenges in record keeping, accessibility and administrative workload. Transitioning to an electronic format improves efficiency and enhances visibility of permits in use.
In 2025, we began developing, testing, and implementing ten electronic hazardous work permits within a mobile application. Stakeholder engagement was central to success, with workshops, user acceptance testing and training sessions ensuring usability and adoption.
These permits can now be created, reviewed and updated across multiple devices, improving compliance and streamlining processes, particularly for tasks requiring multiple permits.
This initiative represents modernising safety systems and supports Port Waratah’s commitment to operational excellence and continuous improvement.
