Celebrating Harry's House

In June, Port Waratah and Harry’s House celebrated the conclusion of a formal three year partnership.

Harry’s House is a retreat for families with children living with cancer or for families grieving the loss of a child to cancer within the past two years. The house, accommodating one family at a time, is located in Stockton close to the ferry terminal, shops, harbour, Foreshore Park and the beach. The Family Retreat has three bedrooms and is fully self-contained with a well equipped kitchen, laundry and an outdoor BBQ area.

In 2011, Port Waratah committed to a $150,000 ($50,000 for three years) sponsorship partnership with Harry’s House, which officially opened in December 2011 and has been steadily hosting families ever since.

Harry is the eldest son of David and Samantha Meyn of East Maitland. At the age of six, Harry was diagnosed with a brain tumour and sadly passed away seven months after diagnosis. He was a gorgeous boy who loved life and had an infectious personality. He was a caring and loving child and is sadly missed. However, his memories will live forever through the work of the Harry Meyn Foundation.

In June, a group from Port Waratah visited Harry’s House for an informal luncheon thank you presentation and to view first-hand what the sponsorship has achieved.

Port Waratah is proud to be one of the local community members who have supported Harry’s House. We commend David and Samantha Meyn for their tireless and continuous efforts to help those travelling a very difficult path.
